The Welcome Reception of the 45th Annual Congress will take pace in  Edinburgh Castle, which is situated in a dramatic location on the Castle Rock, dominating the city's skyline. It is a perfect location for a memorable Scottish evening, with the opportunity to enjoy the Castle’s highlights including the Scottish Crown Jewels.

Meet and mingle with fellow delegates over drinks and canapés at  Our Dynamic Earth , a unique venue set against the backdrop of Salisbury Crags, and beside the New Scottish Parliament. There will be an opportunity for delegates and their families to explore the galleries that immerse you in the Earth's story, traveling back to the beginning of time, wandering through a tropical rainforest, or feeling the chill of polar ice.

The conference dinner will be at  The Balmoral , a stylish 5-star hotel in the very heart of Edinburgh. The Balmoral Hotel, also known as ‘the grand old lady’ of Princes Street has been one of Edinburgh’s most famous landmarks for over 100 years. Its clock tower dominates Edinburgh’s skyline along with the city centre’s other two spires – Nelson Monument on Calton Hill and Scott Monument on Princes Street.
