TAYVALLICH PARKING AND CAMPING.

First, this information is from a representative in Tayvallich:

  • There is very little parking available in Tayvallich and runners' parked cars have caused serious difficulties for villagers in recent years.
  • Camping is not permitted on the village green or on private land.
  • Parking and camping in Tayvallich can be pre-booked at Leachive camping site, adjacent to the pub and 100 metres from the ferry pier, 01546 870206, e-mail: fiona@leachive.co.uk
  • Drivers are strongly urged to make arrangements for parking before arriving in Tayvallich.

Second, here are my observations:

Do phone Nicol well in advance if you want to be sure of a place on this popular service. He has a mate called Sandy with a similar boat, and they both operate. They put on an early sailing on Saturday if you need that one to get to the race, but please let the organiser know that you will be late registering.

There are two free car parks available in the village, close to the jetty. There should also be parking available at the Leachive camp site in the village: see above and below. DO NOT PARK ANYWHERE ELSE if you are leaving your vehicle for the ferry.
See bottom of page for more details of Roly and Fiona's Leachive camp site. N.B. Roly himself is normally only contactable on 07979 433243.

Here are photos and brief descriptions of the two parking zones by the seafront road through the village:

CAR PARK OPPOSITE THE VILLAGE HALL (photos below)
I understand that this car park has, in some sense, been designated as the official car park for users of the public service ferry. Drive through the village along the waterfront, and look out for it on the right before the road splits. There are public toilets at the end you approach from.

CAR PARK OPPOSITE THE VILLAGE SHOP AND CAFÉ (photos below)
A number of places on the SIDE OPPOSITE THE HOUSES can be used by ferry cars. This car park is about half way down the village, a few yards past the ferry jetty, and opposite a good shop and café, if they are open. Please be considerate, and observe any requests for spaces to be kept open for residents.

ROLY'S SPECIAL CAR PARKING AND CAMPING ARRANGEMENTS
Roly is making a special area available for parking on his caravan and camping site. This is also the only place within the village area where it is permissible to camp. Roly will probably make a small charge for parking, and arrangements might be made so that cars are parked accessibly for those leaving earlier, e.g. on race day itself. Do contact the site at fiona@leachive.co.uk and book, ask questions, etc. The website is Leachive Caravan Park.
